Téte is a limestone sculptor by Modigliani. It is also amongst the most expensive works of art ever sold. It was sold on an auction, at Christie’s. An anonymus telephone bidder won the auction, with 59,5 million dollars. The sale was a record in France. Modigliani made 27 sculptures between 1910-1912. Téte is one of them. The head stands over a 2 feet tail. It depicts a woman, wearing a tribal mask. Téte was first exhibited in 1912, in Autumn Salon. During his work on this sculpture, Modigliani was clearly inspired by African culture.
