7. Heinrich Himmler
If you thought that this photo is from some childhood production of The Sound of Music – think again. This photo shows a young Heinrich Himmler, one of the most despicable characters in World War II. Himmler was one of the leading members of the Nazi Party – making him one of the most powerful and feared men in Nazi Germany. He oversaw the building of the concentration camps and is also considered to be one of the people most directly responsible for the Holocaust. He directed the killing of some six million Jews and 400,000 Romani people. He committed suicide while detained in custody in May 1945.
