First played for in 1904, the World Series baseball championships was last won by the San Francisco Giants – the same team that won the series in 2010 and 2012, after coming second in 1989 and 2002. For winning the series, players get more than US$300,000. In 2013 the Boston Red Sox players each received US$307,322. The losers – who come second – get nearly US$100,000 less. In 2013, St Louis Cardinals players each got US$228,300. But these figures certainly aren’t constant. In 2006, Cardinals players each got US$362,173 when the team won the series; five years later, in 2011, they won again but only got US$323,169 each. That year the total payout was estimated at US$14.8 million.
